One of the cornerstones of Charles Street will be the new City of Charles Sturt Library and Community space. Libraries have evolved from just books and information to places with access to technology, learning opportunities, business engagement and community activities.
The new facility will bring together the existing West Lakes Library, Community Centre and Council services under one roof, creating a vibrant, attractive and modern facility that will enhance the connections and creativity within our WEST community.
It will be a place where the community can meet, connect, share and relax amongst a landscaped plaza and cafe connecting to the Football Park oval.
Charles Street will be home to UnitingSA West Lakes, an innovative development putting older people at the heart of a vibrant established community.
Once complete, the five-storey development fronting West Lakes Boulevard will combine high-quality residential aged care with serviced retirement living and public retail space.
Local favourite, The Checkside Tavern, is undergoing a $3.5 million transformation. The result will be your new local, The Mosaic Hotel, incorporating a contemporary bar, balcony for alfresco dining and private dining areas to enjoy with friends and family.
Designed by leading South Australian architectural firm Studio Nine, the redevelopment is expected to be completed in September 2020.
Charles Street now has a Carl’s Jr. store, a brand famous for making its burgers by hand, and is the third store to open in South Australia.
Its completion is an important first step in developing our vibrant Charles Street retail precinct and is an exciting sign of what’s to come at WEST.
